Halter classes are placed on the following categories of conformation.
Balance: The proportion of the horse's body parts and how they "fit" together.
Structure: The shape and alignment of bones in the skeletal system.
Muscling: The amount, shape and length of the skeletal muscle.
Quality: The thinness of skin, smoothness of bone, and shininess of hair coat.
Travel: The straightness of the footfall pattern, the length of stride, and the height and elevation of the knees and hocks.
