e-Tip of the Week
My Horse UniversitySpring Reminders!

  1. Spring Grass: Monitor horse's intake of lush spring pasture as it can trigger founder. Try gradually increasing turn-out time onto spring grass.
  2. Spring Clean-up: Check pastures and stalls for hazardous objects. Try to fill/drain any areas that have standing water to significantly reduce the number of mosquitoes.
  3. Vaccines: Be sure to give your horse its yearly tetanus toxoid and other vaccines recommended by your veterinarian.

Did you know...?
Peripheral VisionDid you know that horses can see all the way around their body except directly behind them? Their eyes can focus together (binocular vision) only on objects directly in front of them.

Horse Quote of the Week

The horses paw and prance and neigh,
Fillies and colts like kittens play,
And dance and toss their rippled manes
Shining and soft as silken skeins;...
~Oliver Wendell Holmes

This picture is of Gwyn Heyboer and her 4 year-old Quarter Horse named Rio Sunny Day. The picture was taken at an open horse show at the Ingham County Fairgrounds in Mason, Michigan. They showed in Western Pleasure and Western Horsemanship classes. They placed first and third in their classes and it was a great weekend for hanging out and having fun at a horse show!
