Did you know...? Did you know that the best time to start training a young horse for trailer loading is long before it is required? Foals hauled with a quiet, easy-loading dam along with other quiet horses can easily become comfortable with loading. |
| e-Tip of the Week
There can be many methods to training a horse to load in a trailer but here are some important factors to keep in mind:
- Open, light colored trailers are usually preferred. Also, make sure the trailer is tall enough so the horse doesn't bump its head and become afraid of the trailer.
- Food enticements, such as treats or grain, can be used but you shouldn't rely completely on them.
- You should always have two people loading a horse on to a trailer.
- Gentle reinforcement can be used. Reinforcement from a longe whip or broom can be helpful.
- Don't rush a horse into a trailer. Take your time getting the horse used to a trailer.
Some horses are difficult to load and you might want to consult a professional or equine clinician to learn new methods.

Horse Quote of the Week
Many people have sighed for the 'good old days' and regretted the 'passing of the horse,' but today, when only those who like horses own them, it is a far better time for horses.
